OBJECTIVES
• To facilitate the transition from being a graduate student to being a faculty member.
• To formally explore the principle components of an academic career: teaching, research,
and service.
• To view the academic career as a manageable process requiring strategic thinking and decision-making.
• To consider the common characteristics of successful faculty members.

GUIDELINES FOR PAPERS
All papers should be double-spaced and approximately three pages in length.
The papers are meant to be personal statements rather than library research papers.
Grading criteria include depth of thought, organization of ideas, logic and persuasiveness of key arguments, and quality of writing.
Each student will briefly present main points from their papers in the seminar on the dates the papers are due.
